POSITIVE TRAIT

  • STRENGTH
  • Many of the experiences Snow had could easily break another person's spirit entirely. Being separated from her (then) beloved sister at an early age, being threatened with death for nothing more than growing up beautiful, repeated rapes and cruelty, betrayed by both her sister and her husband, later impregnated against her will, and later having to rally the citizens of Fabletown and the Farm into a fighting force capable of driving off agents of the Adversary, she manages all of those things and faces them head-on without letting any of the strain show on the surface. She refuses to be a victim of her past or her circumstances and keeps her head held high, not allowing herself to crumble under the strain. She knows that pregnancy out of wedlock is deeply frowned upon by her fellow Fables, but she carries the children to term and despite her feelings about how it happened becomes a loving, devoted mother. She finally reconciles with her sister after years of misunderstandings and resentment, being willing to put all of that aside for a chance for family again. First and foremost, Snow White is a survivor capable of fighting for happiness for herself and her children with the heart of a hero.

    NEGATIVE TRAITS

  • PREJUDICED
  • Earlier in her history, she's sent as an envoy of the European Fables to the Arabian Fables. She doesn't take kindly to them when they treat her as an outsider and no one who should be passing judgement of them in their own lands. Snow White, on the other hand, sees them as inferior and backwards compared to the European Fables. Later on, there is the need for another envoy to the Arabian Fables and Snow is asked if she would intervene and she flat-out refuses, stating that she doesn't care what happens to them and that she sees no need for an alliance with them to combat the Adversary, a terrifying force which killed many European Fables and drove the remaining ones from their home and into the "Mundy" (short for Mundane, those living in the "real" world with no magic or powers) world. As for the Mundys, she's prejudiced against them as well, feeling them to be inferior to the Fables. She only leaves the confines of Fabletown or the Farm on very rare occasions and believes that the Mundys are morally bankrupt. For example, when she becomes pregnant out of wedlock, her doctor (a fellow Fable) suggests that she have an abortion if she really doesn't want the child. She reacts viciously to that, asking the doctor if he thinks she's "gone native" and threatening his position with the other Fables if he makes his suggestion public.

  • VENGEFUL
  • In Fables the story of Snow White's years in the Homelands largely plays out as the stories say, she was sent to live with a relative who became jealous when Snow was judged to be fairer than she was. A huntsman was sent to lure Snow out and kill her, but couldn't do the deed, so Snow ran away into the forest where she came upon a hovel where seven dwarf brothers lived. That's where the tale takes a turn for the dark and disturbing because the dwarfs are far from the jolly, supportive friends in the Disney version. Instead, the dwarfs use Snow White as a house slave, cleaning up for them and fixing their meals, but also as a sex slave, raping her repeatedly for a period of six years. Eventually, the rest of the tale plays out, Snow eating a poisoned apple and being abandoned by the dwarfs, only to be discovered by Prince Charming who wakes her with true love's kiss. After they're wed, Snow is told by the Prince that she can have anything she wants as a wedding present. Snow chooses fencing lessons which must be conducted in secret as the lessons are unseemly for a woman. Eventually, one of the dwarfs is found dead, hacked to bits by someone with little weapons training. Slowly but surely, Snow's talent with the sword improves and along with that, more of the dwarfs are found dead, killed with greater and greater skill. Snow knows that her actions could lead to war between the country of the dwarfs and the humans, but continues her killings until the last dwarf who tormented her is dead.

  • BITTER
  • Trust between Snow and Prince Charming is broken after he realizes that she was the one to kill the dwarfs and actively covers it up. However, he offers her the chance to bring her sister, Rose Red, to the palace as a companion. What Snow White doesn't realize is that Rose had grown resentful of her sister over the years, choosing both to seduce Charming and ensure that Snow catches them in the act. Snow, never really a warm and open person to begin with, is infuriated both at her sister and her husband, who she divorces. Even after the Adversary drives them from their lands, Snow's relationships with her ex and her sister are strained. Snow chooses to devote herself to serving Fabletown (founded in what was New Amsterdam and now Manhattan) and putting her own personal needs and desires aside, replacing them with duty and a cold efficiency which can be seen in the way how she refuses to step in or provide marriage counseling for Beauty and the Beast, despite the fact that the Beast looks more and more beastly depending on how angry Beauty is with him. Plus, her relationship with Rose never fully recovers, Rose acting out and screwing around with every man who pays attention to her, while the stern, buttoned-up Snow is left humiliated by her sister's actions. The two women are barely on speaking terms when canon begins and Snow makes her disgust with her sister clear. Later on, when another character expresses romantic interest in Snow and accidentally impregnates her while both were under the influence of a spell, she reacts badly and accuses him of taking advantage of her during the spell. The pregnancy out of wedlock ruins what's left of Snow's reputation and she turns down a chance to run away with the father of her children and try to build a life together, unwilling to let her guard down to let another person care for her.

Powers and Abilities: in essence, immortal due to people's love of the story of Snow White. she survived a direct gunshot wound to the head and recovered relatively quickly. later in canon, she's shown to be a direct descendant of a powerful line of witches and an heir to their power
